The race for most instagram followers has been very tight but Kim Kardashian has narrowly surpassed Beyoncé with 44.2 million followers.
Kim’s followers have rapidly increased in a very short space of time, gaining a further 15 million followers since February of this year! This shows that the crown for most instagram followers is a fast paced and constantly changing game so Kim may not be safe in her reign for long.
So Kim has some tough competition for the top spot and according to Socialblade the top ten Instagram members with the highest number of followers are as follows:
1) Kim Kardashian – 44.2m
2) Beyonce – 44m
3) Taylor Swift – 43.8m
4) Selena Gomez – 42m
5) Ariana Grande – 41.8m
6) Justin Bieber – 37.1m
7) Kendell Jenner – 35.5m
8) Kylie Jenner – 33.9m
9) Nicki Minaj – 32.4m
10) Khloe Kardashian – 30.6m
Justin Bieber is the only male currently in the top ten with Kim’s sisters Kendell, Kylie and Khloe also making the top spots.
For many this may seem like an insignificant milestone and you may be thinking what use is having more instagram followers, but for many celebs the more followers they have the more they can further their brand and identity.
Kim's half sister Kendell does however have one title her sister doesn't and that is most liked photo on Instagram of all time. Suprassing Kim's wedding snap with Kanye and the previous record holder, the photo of the 19-year-old model now has a whopping 3million likes.
Social media continues to become a more intimate way for celebs to connect with their fans and gain more support. Kim spoke at the re/code mobile event last year and said, ‘her career is so heavily based on social media’ and she loved the way she should connect with fans from the other side of the world.
She added that she can use social media as a marketing tool, asking fans what colour make up bottle they prefer for example or item of clothing from her DASH clothing range.
